Most these programs I will show you today are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems and they are not really in any particular order because they are in different categories but we will count them down anyway just for fun.
SPECCY
Most operating systems come with system information tools that are somehow limited on the information they provide. SPECCY is a great tool that displays all your systems hardware and software specifications.
This comes in handy when troubleshooting your PC or when preparing to upgrade the hardware on your computer. SPECCY displays your system specs in expandable categories like CPU, RAM, Motherboard, and Graphic together with other categories.
You can even see the real time temperature of some of the hardware components on your computer. You can choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit in the options.
You can even save or export you system data as text or XML files. That can be useful when diagnosing your computer. At this time am sure SPECCY is only available on Windows Operating Systems.
It does offer a paid version but for most users, the free version will do all that they need.
VLC MEDIA PLAYER
VLC Media Player is a free and open source cross platform (that is, it is readily made available for Windows, Mac OS X, Android, Linux, Unix) multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It plays almost any type of file without the need to install codec packs.
Some of you may recall the frustration of having to deal with codecs, not fun at all.
VLC is highly customizable to suit your need. You could even install plugins to change the look and functionality of VLC by going to Tools and then selecting Plugins and Extensions.
The only limitation I found is that it doesn’t play Blue-Ray movies. Other than that, it is a great media player.
WPS OFFICE
WPS OFFICE commonly known as Kingsoft office is an office suite which consists of great alternatives to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In fact, WPS is compatible with those Microsoft office products and it has a similar look.
With WPS you could even export documents in pdf format. One minor downside is that it is ads supported but the ads are not too much of a distraction. It available On Windows, Android and IOS. Oddly it’s not available on Mac OS.
A good alternative of WPS that is available for Mac OS is LibreOffice.
GIMP
If you are looking for a great free alternative to Photoshop then GIMP is what you are looking for. You can do multiple layers, transformations and a whole lot more. It’s my favorite program for image creation and editing.

NINITE
Last but not the least, NINITE is a free program that updates and installs all your programs at once. It knows whether to install 32 bit or 64bit software based on your machine.
Here is how it works, first of all, what you do is pick all the programs that you want to install then click on the Get Your Ninite button and then select save file.
Select the installer file from your downloads folder and run it. Now it will find and download all programs that you previously selected.
When you need to update these programs in the future, you just go back to the installer file you used to install and run it again to keep these programs up to date.
NINITE is only available for Windows operating systems. Mac users have access to Get Mac Apps.
